Most of us lost our primal connection to nature, somewhere in between finishing school, starting a career and possibly raising kids. If we live in an urban area, it’s unlikely we have managed to maintain a deep connection with mother nature, our circadian rhythms, the language of nature or the deep peace and joy that comes from wilderness immersion. We host some family-focused courses each year, introducing or reintroducing the participants to the drum beat of the natural wilderness contained within the Coronado National Forest which surrounds the ranch. This high-desert wilderness contains a variety of natural environments, from mountain forests to beautiful riparian canyons and everything in between. The wildlife includes black bears, mountain lions, coyotes, deer (White-tailed, Mule and the smaller Couse subset of the White-Tailed) coatimundi, javelinas, foxes and other smaller mammals, a remarkable number of bird species including raptors and even a resident jaguar. There are some excellent hiking trails that can take you up the Santa Rita Mountains as well as some canyon trails.
